About

My name is A.K. Tettenborn; everyone calls me Kat. I live in Toronto, I like sandwiches, and my favourite animal is the octopus. I can’t really draw, but I swear sometimes and I do embarrassing things, which the internet has taught me is good enough. I also draw another weekly webcomic called Twice Shy.

Fudge That Sugar is no longer in production.

You can email me if you like at aktettenborn [at] gmail [dot] com, or feel free to  add me on Twitter. And, if you really feel like it, you can ask me a question on Formspring.

Just stumbled on you through the googles. I liked the first few comics and I enjoy the way you think. I am going to bookmark your site and check back regularly. I hope you keep it up. There are too many abandoned web comics out there.

  2. Fionnegan says:

I found this because of an ad at Hark! A Vagrant (another wonderful comic). Just wanted to say I like this. You seem neat and I will tell my friends about this.

  3. harold acropolus says:

marry me i am part octopus

    • Amanda ling says:

but which part? do you have several arms? do you have a beak? will you open a bottle underwater if you think there’s a shrimp in it you can eat? :D

  4. NobbyNobody says:

Found you through B3ta. Love the comics. Love Octopuses too!

  5. Ashley says:

Just stumbled upon your comic (via Hark! A Vagrant!) and love it already. I feel like a few of them could have been drawn about my childhood – I hated those Le Chateau bitches!

  6. Mark Taylor says:

THESE ARE GREAT. I LOVE YOU.

  7. Katie says:

  9. Devin says:

I found you though an ad on QuestionableContent. As the second one from that site I say you should try and contact the author but that’s just me :P.

I think you write great stuff and should get your name out there. Do whatever you can because you are hilarious.

I found your site from Questionable Content, too. I love your humor and, speaking as a fellow stick-figure artisan, I thoroughly enjoy your illustrations. Can’t wait for the next one!

  15. Nick says:

I’m also from Questionable Content. I’ve really enjoyed everything I’ve read so far.

  16. Jesse says:

Like a lot of the people above, I found this through the ad on QC. Love the comic! Keep it up. I’ll be waiting expectantly come Wednesday.

  17. Ryan says:

Just found your site (through QC like everyone else), and I’m impressed! I’m adding you to my webcomic lineup for sure!

  18. Michelle says:

Also on QC….definitely like what you have going! Octopi ROCK!

  19. Jim K. says:

I’m another one from QC; good stuff here. I’m looking forward to more Kat stories.

An aside to other new webcomic artists – you may want to advertise on QC. This is at least the second webcomic I’ve really enjoyed from a QC ad. Obviously your comic may not appeal to me but if you like QC then it seems the fans there follow the ads.

  20. Joe says:

Found your site via Reddit. All I can say is Thank You and keep drawing.

  21. Dan says:

Your outlook and perspective is really cool, please keep sharing! You give me the smiles.

  22. Terra says:

Another from QC. Really love the comic. Hope you keep it up!

  23. Jen says:

“octopi” ohhh THAT’S how you pluralize “octopus”! found your site through QC (like everyone else and their mom, apparently). i saw the one for the octopus and now i am officially in LOVE with this comic. it’s a combination of 5-year-old me who wanted to be an octopus when i grew up, and current me who loves to touch butts. fan-effing-tastic.

    *bookmarks website*
    keep them coming!!

    • aktettenborn says:

Actually, “octopi” is incorrect. It’s either “octopodes” or “octopuses.” Ta da!

      • Jen says:

I KNEW IT. although i usually spelled it ‘octopusses’ which is probably why i thought it was wrong. and inappropriate.

      • Jen says:

so since i only misspell it i guess that means that i’m only a little bit of an ignorant slob….? lol

  24. Mr. Glass says:

    Dear Ms. Tettenborn,

How do you do? I see in the brief description of yourself you have posted above, you choose to mention your adoration of sandwiches. Do you feel like this food medium is a defining staple of your life? Or are you simply attempting to avoid writing something truly personal? If it is the former then my ever-present, unceasingly judgmental monologist would say, “How…unusual?” (As a matter of fact he would have much more to say but I am truncating his speech on this topic to move on.) If however it is the latter of the two presented causes that motivates you to speak so fondly of sandwiches then the above mentioned gentleman would say, “Bravo, young lady!” For you see, he feels, and I must admit I agree, that the hyper-connectivity afforded to us by the world wide web makes connections less human since we do not actually occupy the same physical space with those we think we “connect” with, rather share these seeming moments with a glowing square. This is highlighted in the surely, and hopefully, sarcastic comments left above by random passers-by. One commenter proposes to you based on your mutual love of sandwiches, while another congratulates you on being from the same city! I am curious to your thoughts on the matter.

The monologist can sound like a pretentious prick sometimes, and I am sorry about that. I would like to add that I found your comics most amusing and favored above all the one titled “Frat Warfare.” Looking forward to your future work…

    Sincerely,
    Mr. Glass

P.S. I would just like to say that I do not actually have voices in my head.

    P.P.S. …For the most part.

    • aktettenborn says:

No, sandwiches do not occupy such a huge part of my life that I felt compelled to write about them. I just found writing the “about me” section really awkward, so that’s what I came up with. But I do love sandwiches.

  25. leslie edens says:

Found you through QC. You’ve been officially added to my web comic list, which is a fairly short list =P I can’t wait to see more!

Even if i shouldn’t have read it in the first place since i’m in class right now. heh. yay for ignoring the college education i pay for! XD

  26. Xio says:

Found you through QC as well, loved every one of the comics, adding you to my bookmark list, welcome to my morning routine. Keep up the awesome work.

  27. Lindsay says:

I also found you from QC, which seems to be a trend here. I’m definitely bookmarking this site! I’m originally from Toronto, and I thought your attempt at political humor was excellent. “Frat Warfare” is my favorite so far!

  33. Claire says:

I just found your comic through Questionable Content and almost peed myself laughing. Keep up the good work. :)

  34. Dan says:

I love the internet for this very reason.

I hope when alien Extract the internet from our long gone civilization, and they are puzzled by our day to day behavior, they will find your insights here and go “Bleego blabber ploo,” which roughly translated, means, “oh I get it now. They were all psychotic.”

  35. Mr. Savage says:

i like how the vast majority come straight from QC’s woodwork much like me. love your gloriously awkward comic. a million welcomes to my daily webcomic procession.

  36. Your work cracks me up. I love it and I’m super glad I saw the ad on Questionable Content (like so many others here). Keep drawing and writing!

    –Sarah.

  44. thysleroux says:

A very original blog, I’m glad I stumbled across it!

If you would be so kind you could have a look at my “attempts” at art as well. I thoroughly enjoy conversing with others who also dabble in “comics” …. ;-)

  45. William says:

I am officially a fan of your blog and comic. Mind if I link your page on mine?

  46. Kristin! says:

Hey! I love your comic! Came across it around number seven…and I definitely check it before I write essays or study for midterms. (I am a very good student) Just wanted to say you handled that feminist argument in a very classy manor. Sometimes I think people have too much time on their hands…but not quite enough to see both sides of an argument. Anywho, you are hilarious. That is all.

  47. David says:

Liked the comic on how feminism isn’t a nasty word; that all it means is that one believes women should have equal rights. Been trying to tell others that but unfortunately they can’t get past the tainted version (which word isn’t?). Keep up the good work :)

  48. Petek says:

:) you made my day! lots of reagards from Austria!

  49. Jade says:

Stumbled upon your comic, and I have to say it made me laugh. Of course I found it after you discontinued it. Hope you pick it back up eventually! It gives me a reason to procrastinate during my day..
